Kyogen
From 1993 – 2014 I performed kyogen in English as part of Theatre of Yugen’s educational outreach. Initially directed by Yuriko Doi, I was responsible for the direction the last 4 years. It was a true repertory in that we performed some of the plays every year. Through the years it was customary to take on more than one part in a play so casting was always juggled based on who was available and the full program. We worked to add new plays as well as dust off some forgotten classics. Below is a list of the plays and characters I often portrayed. Shite is the central figure, Ado the secondary figure and the Ko-Ado is the secondary figure’s sideman. I have placed a (D) beside pieces I also directed)
Fukuro Yamabushi (Owl Mountain Priest) (D) Mt. Priest (Shite) Older Brother (Ado),Younger Brother (Ko-Ado)
Bonsan (The Dwarf Tree) (D) Thief (Shite)

Kaki Yamabushi (Persimmon Mt. Priest) (D) Mt. Priest (Shite), Farmer (Ado)
